2016 USSail Instructor Class

Hi Sailors,

I know that the snow is still on the ground and our boats are under wraps, but the 2016 sailing season will be soon be upon us.

Margie Graham has agreed to teach another USSailing Instructor class at our club for the 2016 sailing season.  The dates are June 4, 5, 6, and 7.  Again, I will offer a  Red Cross CPR, AED, First Aid course to club members prior to the course. Rob has agreed to offer a powerboat refresher course prior to the course also. You will also need to complete the online power boating for the state of Michigan and bring the certificate to the first class.  The club will reimburse course fees after you have taught 10 Saturday and/or weekday lessons for the club.

A little about the course–

The course is not a learn to sail or how to operate the safety boat.  It is expected that you already are able to sail at a strong key level and have participated in teaching sailing.  Attendance all four days is mandatory.   It is a rigorous course with several written tests, on-water drills and in-class sessions.  For those with limited teaching experience, it would be a good idea to help out in boat school on Saturdays or during the week prior to the course.

I will be contacting the USSailing rep to place the course on the USSailing website later this week. It will fill up soon, so sign up early.
