Tortoise snags first place at 2021 Dan Rice regatta.
10-20 knots of gusty breeze blew Mike Krawec and his Sunfish to an overall win on corrected time in the five windward-leeward races of the 2021 Dan Rice Regatta. Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system was used so that different boats can more equitably race together. Mike battled with three Flying Dutchman, a Prindle 18, and a JY15 to make an exciting show for the spectators. Results can be found here.
These other boats showed us that they had more fun fine-tuning – and getting a bit tangled – in their trapeze, spinnakers, travelers, furling gear, vangs, and cunninghams. Jeff and Elizabeth even swam their capsized Prindle 18 cat down the river towards Dexter in lieu of 2 races. (Time for an MSC triathalon?) To give credit to these reaching machines, if the course was a 2-mile beat at another venue, the FDs and Prindle would be first into dry clothes and first to the keg while the Sunfish would still be out there the next day, and the day after that, and eventually get back to a warm PBR from the bottom of the cooler.
Mixed-fleet informal racing continues on Sundays. Use this time to switch gears to Lasers with the Spring Laser regatta on June 13th. Please remember our MSC no alcohol policy and no pets (including turtles).
