Tawas Sailing Trip
Twelve members of Michigan Sailing Club traveled to Tawas on Lake Huron on June 24-27. We took three club boats: two 470’s, and the Wayfarer. Paul brought his Albacore and Andy his Macgregor. Fernando joined us on Sunday with his Laser. We were fortunate to have wonderful weather and good wind for most of the weekend. We stayed at the Timberlane resort cabins which are most of the way out on Tawas Point. We were joined by a large group of windsurfers that stayed next door and would surf mostly in the shallow areas. On Friday afternoon we rigged boats and then went to dinner at the Tawas Bay Yacht Club. After dinner, we enjoyed the sunset and looking over the boats at the yacht club. While we were at dinner a certain Albacore thought it might be fun to try to go home to Canada. It took some searching but we were successful in bringing it home late Friday night. Saturday brought sunshine and nice winds with a bit of Lake Huron swells. Everyone spent most of the day sailing. Saturday night was a potluck on the beach with half the sailors putting on dinner. We also enjoyed the impromptu fireworks show. Sunday morning appeared to have an incoming storm but it dissipated as it reached the lake and we all spent another great day on the water. Sunday night the other half of the sailors put on another wonderful potluck and we were treated to a fabulous sunset along with a fire on the beach. Monday morning we were back out sailing and then grudgingly, back to shore to un-rig and go home. It was a great time and many thanks to Jeanne for organizing the trip!
