Summer Update… Hello, WIND & warm water!

Dear MSC members and friends – it’s hard to believe summer is almost over. Our COVID19 modified operations continue to be successful. The board has approved and implemented a formal COVID Preparedness and Response plan which you can read here.

Labor Day weekend:
we plan to be open Friday through Monday. Key and Skipper members please sign up here for a shift.  Monday, no club potluck this year, BYO picnic if you come.

If you haven’t been to the club this year, below is a synopsis of our major changes:

  •  Lots of great signage has been added to remind members and guests to exercise safety practices of mask-wearing and social distancing. Many thanks to our past and present COVID response team members Sandy, Shannon, Renee, Ron, Kay, Donna, and Jim for putting these and other safety measures in place.
  • NEW: Check-in/out online for Contact Tracing if needed by County Health Department. This and our Liability Waiver can be accessed on-line before you come out. Thank you, Patrick, for the updates to our website during the pandemic.
  • Instruction has been limited to Tuesday eve classes led by Chas, and one-on-one, by appointment. If you are an instructor or student who would like to participate by appointment, please contact Jeff.
NEW: All sails and boat gear are now being stowed on their corresponding boat. To properly un-rig your boat:

Rinse down
hull and blades
Leave all the equipment in the boat
Put the sail in its bag if provided
Secure the boat cover if provided
Park the boat in its designated place
  • NEW: A hands-free outdoor sink and a boat washing station have been installed thanks to Ron.
  • Club boats are still checked out by paper method. Boat numbers have been added to facilitate tracking their use.
  • Many more private boats are being used and stored at the club this year due to COVID restrictions on sailing club boats with only family members. Use this request form if you’d like to store a boat. If you have a boat stored that isn’t being used, please consider removing it to make space for others.

We had two great board members step down this year: Andy and Mel. We thank them both for their services to the club and their continued membership and dedication. Filling those roles are Patrick as Secretary and Ulrich Scheven as Fleet Captain. Thank you, Patrick and Uli, for stepping into these vacancies.

Club elections are the 4th Thursday of October. Please reach out to current officers if you are interested in serving the club in any of these capacities:
  • Commodore – presides at meetings, ensures compliance to rules, ex-officio member of all committees
  • Vice Commodore – head of instruction, records ratings
  • Treasurer – keeps records of finance and membership, pays bills
  • Secretary – responsible for publicity, web site, meeting minutes, communications
  • Fleet Captain – coordinates boat maintenance
  • Dock Master – coordinates buildings and grounds maintenance
  • Racing Chair – coordinates racing

Other ways to volunteer: join the fleet captain’s crew to help with boat repairs; join the dock master’s crew to help with buildings and grounds maintenance; join the instruction crew to help other members hone their sailing skills.

Finally, a big THANK YOU to all our members for looking out for each other and helping everyone stay safe this year.
Fair winds,
Meg
