2021 Fall Laser Regatta
We had yet again a great sailing event here on Baseline Lake, the Fall Laser Regatta: 17 boats on the starting line, including all of the nine Lasers the club has, navigating in good wind averaging around 10kn. We ran all the planned 7 races, with no events other than the occasional capsizes in warm water, on a long and steady course, with a square starting line, and a variation of triangle and double sausage courses.
The results are calculated according to the US Sailing Portsmouth Yardstick tables, to compensate our lighter weight sailors Jane Tucker and Galen Ng for their smaller sail.
I take advantage of this email to apologize to Jane for failing to announce her finish place during the results meeting yesterday, so I am doing it now: “ …. and with 70.0 points, in the 14th position … Jane Tucker! Congratulations to Jane!“
The race was highly contested, with excellent quality sailing by the top contenders, a great show of seamanship and racing expertise. This was a perfect opportunity for the followers, either racers or spectators in the motor boats, or some other sail boats, or even on our dock, to observe and learn how it’s done. There is a lot to learn from good sailors visiting our club.
Congratulations to Craig Pearson from North Cape YC, for winning a tough race, as well as all the racers for participating in the event, and many thanks to the Race Committee volunteers making the is event possible: George G., Patrick, Paula A., Aradhna, Robert R., Katie, and Carey wearing two hats as both racer and helper.
Special thanks to Paula Anderson for volunteering to take these awesome photographs!
