A Michigan Sailing Club Basic-rated member may sail anytime the Club is “Open for Sailing.” A Basic rating requires an elementary level of sailing skill.
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Start here by reading our guide: Basic Rating Guide and start studying!
Then, when you are ready, find a Learning Opportunity:

- Shore School Lessons Monday Eves 6pm to Dusk with Meg
- Sailing with Kirk
- Friday Night Basics & Beyond with Anna
- Sunday Racing with an experienced Crew
- Youth Sailing with Parents: 6/24/24 – 6/28/24
- Teen Sailing Week with Al: 7/22/24 – 7/26/24
When you finally have the skills you need and you think you are ready, sign up for the Sailing Test.

Our learn to sail book is “Learn Sailing Right” and is available in our Sailstore for purchase at a discounted rate to Members for $10.87 (while supplies last). You can pick up in person at the Club during the sailing season.
Purchase is optional- we have copies in the boathouse that you can read. Please consider donating your copy when you are finished with it so others may borrow. |
