Boat Sign-out Procedures

How to sign out Club Watercraft:

Watercraft must be signed out for each use. This task is completed by placing an index card assigned to a Member on the Sign-out Board in the clubhouse using a magnet. Each magnet is associated with a specific Club Watercraft.

Sign-out cards are located in two boxes:

Blue box: Basic & Sailboard Rating Cards as well as Paddlecraft Signout Cards.
Pink box: Helms & Skippers, and Skipper permission Cards.

Each Club rating card is color-coded for ease of use:

Basic Rating – Green

Sailboard Rating – Green

Helm Rating – Orange

Skipper Rating – Pink

Boat Specific Training

On the backs of all Basic, Helm, and Skipper Rating cards is a list of Club Boats for which the rated member has received adequate training on how to operate safely. The printed name of the Member who conducted such training shall be printed next to the applicable boat. While this training is not technically regulatory, Members should be hesitant and are discouraged to operate a boat without first receiving the proper training (rigging, unrigging, sailing characteristics, etc.) for each of our different boat types.

Paddlecraft Sign-out Cards – Blue

Paddlecraft used outside the vicinity of the dock are required to be signed out and if going off of Baseline lake shall indicate their destination and their expected time of return.

These cards are blue and are reusable. Place this card on the Sign-out Board using the magnet associated with that paddlecraft. Upon return, the user removes the card and the magnet from the board and simply crosses their name from the card and the card can be used by the next Member. The card can be discarded after no space remains on the card. Blue cards can be found in the blue index card box.

Students

During Saturday Boat School or during any instruction for which a Member does not possess a rating:

  • The instructor will place their Rating Card on the white board.
  • The instructor will then write the names of the students using the dry erase marker and place the boat magnets next to the names of those using the boats.
  • Finally, the instructor will circle the entire class around their rating card to keep separate from any other sailing activities taking place.

Skipper Permission Cards – Yellow

Members that due not hold any Ratings may receive a one time authorization from SKIPPERS ONLY to sail Club Boats during Open Sailing or Official Regattas. This card MUST be filled out by the Skipper and contain the name of the Member, the date of the permission given, the printed name of the Skipper, and the Skipper’s signature. The date and the Member name should be the most prominent part of the card. This card, being single-use, shall be torn up and discarded after use. A new card with a new permission will be needed to sail again.

If you have any further questions, please refer to the Club Rules or ask a Helm, Skipper, or Instructor Member.
