2020 Bonechiller

Sailors,

We had yet again a wonderful Bonechiller event. It was a great day to close the sailing season with, we had good wind, fairly steady, no rain, warmer than expected, and a few capsizes to make the day interesting. Out of the close encounters with the water, I’ll mention Sam and Weilling (3rd place overall!) succeeding a state of the art dry capsize recovery on the Wayfarer, and Razvan diving from the dock to save a drifting Flying Dutchman.

We raced 6 races, well run by our offshore PRO Tony Schornak, with minimal wait time between races. Tony has graciously stepped up to fill in the big shoes of George Griswold, currently ill. Get well, George!

We have mainly used course #2 (2 sausages), as it seems to be the fashion these days. On the PRO boat, Peggy M., Jane T. and Diane Silas have recorded results and emailed them on shore after every race to Jeanne B. to have them fed into the computer in almost real time. Great idea for future regattas.

On the marks boat, captain Kevin Q. and his crew Angela Brazil have adjusted marks according to wind shifts and assisted capsized boats, while our professional photographer Charlie Scott ensured the legacy of this great event. Be sure to check out another set of top notch quality pictures here.

On shore, Jeanne and Diane wore two hats, also providing a warm snack and beverages (nonalcoholic), in addition to their secretary positions. This was a well appreciated bonus for this event organized in the austere conditions of Covid19.

For the first time in as many years as I can remember, we had no guests. I’ll mark that as a minus to an otherwise great event, and I’ll blame Covid for it.

Overall, the 2020 Bonechiller Regatta was no different from previous years, in the sense that it proved again how fun, excitement, and adrenaline, can balance the outside temperature naming the event, and making participants congratulate themselves for not bailing out.

Many thanks to the RC team making this event possible and congratulations to all the participants. The official results may be viewed here.
