Craig Pearson returns to Base Line Lake to win the Michigan Sailing Club’s Fall Laser Regatta
Ten sailors were out on a beautiful September day to match wits with the tricky conditions on Base Line Lake. The wind was out of the north northwest at 8 – 14 knots at times gusting to 18 – 20. This made for conditions of light air to full hiking and planning on the downwind legs. After seven races completed it was clear that Craig Pearson has not lost his touch sailing in shifty and changing conditions. Close behind was Rick Lyons from Portage Lake. Michigan Sailing Club sailors Cary Jones and Ovidiu Adam made up the third and fourth place finishers. The conditions tested the skills of Laser sailors. Close sailing and tactical maneuvering caused crowded mark roundings and spills out on the race course. The race committee did a superb job starting seven races. Our thanks go to Jim Meyer as PRO and Jim Rennell as his able assistant. Ian MacGregor organized the shore activities and set marks. The sailors were treated to a gourmet lunch provided by Robert Parker. His food keeps us all coming back to Base Line. Dick Weaver remarked. “It was a superb racing day for all!!!!” Full Results
